Image of the Hartland Covered Bridge taken during the summer of 2005. The bridge was opened in 1901 as a toll bridge until an election promise succeeded in getting rid of the tolls.

The Hartland Bridge opened 19 years before it was covered in 1920. It was covered to protect the structural trusses from the natural elements. This was done at the same time that two spans were replaced.
