Description of Historic Place
Aimé Bourque House is located on Acadie Road, in the village of Cap-Pelé. This one-and-a-half storey wood-frame structure with a gable roof was built circa 1855 in the vernacular style.
Aimé Bourque House is designated a Local Historic Place for its association with the early commercial life of Cap-Pelé and for its architecture.
Aimé Bourque House is recognized for its association with Aimé Bourque, one of Cap-Pelé’s first merchants. He was also a lobster packer, cobbler, county councillor, and postmaster. Aimé Bourque represents a good example of a local Acadian merchant as he was involved in business for half a century, from 1855 until his death in 1902.
Aimé Bourque House, with its hewn wood frame, is probably the oldest house in the village’s centre. The vernacular-style structure was built around 1855. Originally located about one kilometre to the east of the village, it was moved to its current site around 1868. A kitchen was added on the east side. Modifications were made around 1890, when the roof was raised to enlarge the upper floor. In 1891, this one-and-a-half-storey house had eight rooms. Since 1947, it has been owned by the family of Amance LeBlanc, a lobster packer like Aimé Bourque.
