Statement of Significance

Description of Historic Place

Tilmon Bourque House is a 1 ½ storey, single-family Acadian vernacular residence located on La Vallée Highway in Memramcook.

Heritage Value

Tilmon Bourque House is designated a Local Historic Place for its architecture.

Tilmon Bourque House is recognized for its architecture, representative of a particular style of Acadian home built in the Memramcook area. Built circa 1845, the house consists of two distinct yet conjoined buildings. The main portion of the building is a good example of Acadian vernacular residential architecture, exhibiting the traditional cross-gable roof. The rear portion is of a simple rectangular single storey design with a gable roof. Traditional materials and construction techniques are apparent in the framework. The property was purchased in 1894 by Ferdinand Bourque, father of Tilmon, when the family of Thaddée LeBlanc sold the house following his death.
