Joseph Thompson House is a charming 1 ½ story cottage, in the Colonial style, located on the former “Great Road” or “Post Road”, now Church Street, in Middle Sackville near the intersection of the High Marsh Road.

Joseph Thompson House is designated a Local Historic Place for its architectural features dating to 1795 and for its association with Joseph Thompson.

Joseph Thompson House is a good example of a Colonial style residence from the end of the 18th century in Sackville. It exhibits key features of this style, including distinctive gable dormers, shingle siding and overall symmetry.

John Thompson and his brother Joseph, English gentlemen, came from Yorkshire in 1772. Joseph Thompson purchased land in Middle Sackville, reportedly paying in gold, and converted the land into farms. In the records from that period, it notes that Joseph Thompson or a descendant by the same name, held many Offices including Overseer of the Poor, Fence Viewer, Surveyor of Highways and Assessor. John Thomson House remained in the Thompson family for many years, but when it was conveyed to long time owner Roy Brooks in 1921 it was referred to as the Anderson farm. The Anderson family were large property owners whose homestead is located in the area of this property.
