Description du lieu patrimonial
85 Albion Street is on the east side of Albion Street, north of Moir Street, in the City of London. The one-storey white-brick cottage was constructed circa 1880.
The property was designated by the City of London in 1993 for its heritage value or interest under Part IV of the Ontario Heritage Act (By-law L.S.P.-3185-132).
Valeur patrimoniale
The white brick cottage at 85 Albion Street is a good representation of Gothic Revival architecture. The house, constructed circa 1880, is built on a field-stone base and features a centre gable, with a small louvered window enhanced by decorative fretwork and finials. Brick voussoirs surround all the windows. The entranceway is triple-arched and has multiple lights set into the doorway.
The front porch was a later addition. It has a symmetrical temple appearance with a front pediment, entablature with shallow brackets and corner brackets supported by four Doric columns.
85 Albion Street, along with several other cottages along Albion helps to define the streetscape. These cottages are a reminder of the area's origins as a working-class neighbourhood.
