Description du lieu patrimonial
Moncrieff Church is located at 83506 Livingston Line, on the west side of Livingston Line, south of Moncrieff Road, in the Township of Grey. The one storey, red brick church was constructed between 1908 and 1912.
The property was designated, by the Township of Grey in 1989, for its heritage value, under Part IV of the Ontario Heritage Act, By-law 27-1989.
Valeur patrimoniale
Moncrieff Church is associated with the Presbyterian congregation in Grey Township. After purchasing the local Methodist Church in 1902, the Presbyterian congregation quickly outgrew their new church. In 1908 two cornerstones were laid for the new church on land sold to the congregation from local blacksmith Robert Munn.
Moncrieff Church is a one storey, three-bay cruciform building, constructed of red-brick. The Church has a high hip roof with gable ends and a 60-foot tower with double-hung windows. Decorative stone work is used in quoins and voussoirs above the windows. The grand entrance is a focal point that boasts stone voussoirs, arched sidelights and a stained glass transom. In 1976 the congregation sold the church and it has since been renovated into a residence.
