Bussell House, located at 7420 Ninth Line, is on the north side of Ninth Line, north of Allspice Trail in the Town of Mississauga. The one-and-a-half-storey red brick residence was constructed circa 1865.

The property was designated by the Town of Milton in 1996 for its heritage value under Part IV of the Ontario Heritage Act (By-law 74-96). In 2010, the property became part of the City of Mississauga as a result of Halton-Peel boundary realignment.

Valeur patrimoniale

Bussell House is associated with early settlement in the Trafalgar area. The Bussell family was one the earliest settler families in the area. John Bussell received the land from the Crown in 1836. He gave the land to his son James who had the residence built in 1865. The house stayed in the family until 1908.

The Bussell House is a good representative example of an early settlement residence reflecting simple Gothic Revival style. The red stretcher brick residence is three bays wide and one-and-a-half-storeys tall. Typical of the Gothic Revival style is the projecting frontispiece supporting the centre gable on the facade. Decorative elements include the brackets under the eaves, the decorative bargeboard and finial on the central gable, and the simple yet decorated entranceway with a stained glass transom and sidelights.
