Description du lieu patrimonial

The Private Residence of Pius Meier is a Municipal Heritage Property located on a quarter section within the Rural Municipality of Grass Lake No. 381. The site features a wood-frame house.

Valeur patrimoniale

The heritage value of the Private Residence of Pius Meier resides in its historical association with this rural community. Constructed in 1918, this simple one and a half storey wood-frame farmhouse is representative of rural farm houses of the period. This quarter section was homesteaded by the Meier family, who immigrated from Russian in 1910. A land patent was issued to John Meier in 1914. John’s youngest son, Pius Meier, assumed management of the farm in 1934 upon his parents’ retirement. The farm in turn was inherited by Pius' son and remains in the family to this day making it a landmark in the community.
