Get a place formally recognized in New Brunswick

NBDo you know of a historic place that is important to your community, region, or province? You can nominate it for designation as a historic place! Follow the steps below.

Step 1: Make sure the place hasn’t already been designated as a historic place. designated

Step 2: Think about what makes this place important remember

  • Is the place associated with a historic event or persons who, in the past, made a significant contribution?
  • Is the place significant because of its architecture, design, engineering or method of construction?
  • Does the place have special meaning because of its landscape, spiritual or cultural associations?

Step 3: Consider your answers to the questions above. Is the place significant at a local or at a provincial level? shrugging

  • If the place is felt to be significant at a provincial level, it may be eligible for Provincial designation as a Provincial Historic Site or a Protected Provincial Historic Site.
  • If the place is felt to be of local significance, it may be eligible for designation as a Local Historic Place.
