Historic Site Designation in Quebec

Step 1: Is this historic place already officially protected under the Cultural Property Act? designated

Step 2: Think about what makes this location important. Here is an overview of the questions that can guide your efforts.remember

  • Is the location associated with a historical figure or event?
  • If it’s a building, is the architecture special?
  • If it's a historical site, does it consist of several heritage buildings?

Step 3: Consider your answers to the questions above. Is the location important to:shrugging

Step 4: If you think that the location is especially important to Quebec as a whole, submit a request for heritage status from the Ministère de la Culture et des Communications. phoning

  • In Quebec, there are two kinds of status issued by the Ministère: classification and recognition. Both kinds of status provide legal protection to the location and qualify it for financial and technical support.
