Heritage Value

Former L. H. Morneault Cie Ltée Hardware Store is recognized as a Local Historic Place for its longevity and for its regional importance as a business.

Former L. H. Morneault Cie Ltée Hardware Store was in operation for 62 years, from 1943 to 2005. Opened by L. H. Morneault in 1943 and belonging to a chain of three stores, the L. H. Morneault Hardware Store was, in 1960, the largest hardware store in the Maritimes, and in 1961, it had a sales figure of nearly $1 million. Although the business changed hands and names several times over the years, its main function did not change until it was sold in 2005 to an Edmundston businessman.
