Statement of Significance
Description of Historic Place
Cameron/Armstrong Residences consist of two wooden double homes that are joined together. They are of vernacular architecture inspired by the Classic Revival style. They are located on Queen Street in the Trinity Royal Heritage Preservation Area of Saint John.
Heritage Value
Cameron/Armstrong Residences are designated a Local Historic Place as an expression of the significance of the rebuilding of a Saint John residential district after the Great Saint John Fire of 1877. These building are part of a collection of residential and commercial buildings that were built between 1877 and 1881 after two thirds of the City of Saint John was destroyed by the fire. These buildings serve as a reminder of the fire and the strong will of the residents of Saint John to rebuild the city.
