Statement of Significance

Description of Historic Place

111 Water Street is located on the south side of Water Street, east of Nile Street, in the City of Stratford. The two storey buff brick residence was constructed in 1902.

The property was designated by the City of Stratford in 2001 for its heritage value under Part IV of the Ontario Heritage Act (By-law 34-2001).

Heritage Value

Constructed in 1902, 111 Water Street is a good example of the Edwardian Classicism style of architecture. Typical of this style is the balanced facade, simplified but large hip roof, smooth brick surfaces and generous fenestration. The residence's most distinctive features are the bandstand style veranda with steep conical roof and the fish scale shingling on the front gable.
