Statement of Significance

Description of Historic Place

Hansen House is a one-and-a-half storey residence designed in the Picturesque style with classical elements. Built circa 1832, the home’s prominent features are its steep central gable and unusual fish scale shingle porch. The designation consists of the house and the property located on Frederick Street in Saint Andrews.

Heritage Value

Hansen House is designated a Provincial Historic Site for its historic and architectural value. Situated within Saint Andrews’ historic district, the aesthetic home, distinctive in style from its immediate neighbours, is an integral part of the original Loyalist town plan.

The Picturesque style of the home is characterized by its steep centre gable, symmetrical shape, porch entry, and classic gable returns. The home is distinguishable from other homes of the same design by its unique decorative elements. Existing renovations have preserved architectural integrity of the home.
