Description du lieu patrimonial

100 Daly Avenue is located on the north side of Daly Avenue, east of St. Vincent Street, in the City of Stratford. The two-and-a-half storey, red, brick residence was constructed in 1896.

The property was designated, by the City of Stratford in 1987, for its heritage value, under Part IV of the Ontario Heritage Act (By-law 153-87).

Valeur patrimoniale

100 Daly Avenue is associated with Hugh Nichol who lived there until 1909. Once a prominent local citizen, he was the jailer in Stratford. He had the house built in 1896.

100 Daly Avenue is an excellent example of the Queen Anne style of architecture. It was designed by local architect, R. Banks Barber. Typical of the Queen Anne style are the steeply pitched multiple rooflines and gables. Of particular significance are the detailed stained glass window in the second storey gable and the original verandas on the facade and west elevation. Also of note are the large bay windows on the first and second storeys.
