Description du lieu patrimonial

The former Patrick Fanning House is a Queen Anne Revival style building located in a residential street in Summerside, PEI. The home, now an inn, is well maintained with large trees and manicured lawns. The registration includes the footprint of the building.

Valeur patrimoniale

The Queen Anne Revival style Patrick Fanning House was completed in August 1891 for P.T. Fanning, a prominent Summerside merchant and owner of a boot and shoe company which stood on Water Street. The 15 room Victorian mansion was described by the local press as "a handsome dwelling... most excellently arranged for comfort and convenience." It was later purchased by the Campbell family and was home to two provincial premiers: Thane Campbell (1936-1943) and later his son, Alex Campbell (1966-1978). It now serves as the Summerside Inn Bed and Breakfast.
