Description du lieu patrimonial
315 Sixth Avenue is a two-storey wood-frame house situated on the north side of Sixth Avenue between Third and Fourth Streets in the Glenbrooke North neighbourhood of New Westminster.
Valeur patrimoniale
The heritage value of 315 Sixth Avenue lies primarily in its age and architectural style.
Constructed in 1890, this house, (together with 319 Sixth Avenue) is the oldest extant house in the Glenbrooke North neighbourhood and one of the oldest in the entire city. Its age alone makes it significant, but given that most of the single family homes in this neighbourhood were built in the 1910s, 1920s and 1940s, the house increases in significance for its rarity of style.
The house is a good example of an Italianate style house, particularly for the following elements: a picturesque and irregular massing, a two-storey tower on the front façade and single storey bay window on the side façade, each capped by their own roofs, variety of large double-hung windows and the variety of external materials and textures.
