Statement of Significance
Description of Historic Place
St. John the Divine Anglican Church is located on the west side of Kinchant Street in North Quesnel, BC. The historic place includes the building and the parcel of land it occupies.
Heritage Value
The Church holds historical value as a physical reminder of the role of religion in the development of Quesnel. The legacy of Canon Brooke provided the funds to build the original Church as well as other buildings in the city. Reverend Elliott presided over the congregation from 1912 to 1921. He was another prominent community member and was also a medical doctor, hospital board member, and introduced scouting to Quesnel with the Eagles and the Beavers.
It also holds spiritual value as it has served as a place of worship for the community since its construction. The Church was the Mission centre in the Cariboo area
