Statement of Significance

Description of Historic Place

Wilson Hill at SW 20-33-03-W3 is a Municipal Heritage Property comprising approximately 2.6 hectares in the south west corner of a quarter-section within the Rural Municipality of Keys. The property features a log house set among a small grove, and a non-contributing cairn.

Heritage Value

The heritage value of Wilson Hill at SW 20-33-03-W2 resides in its association with Robert and Mary Elizabeth Raynolds Wilson. The Wilsons homesteaded this quarter in 1901, building their first cabin in this grove that was affectionately called ‘the Pines’. The Wilsons quickly became leading members of their community and ‘The Pines’, which came to include a small orchard, became an important gathering place. Mary’s influence was particularly important as she co-founded the first public library in the area.
