Statement of Significance

Description of Historic Place

Kirkpatrick House is an asymmetrical two-storey Queen Anne Revival residence that was built in the early 20th century. It is located on Church Street in Grand Falls.

Heritage Value

Kirkpatrick House is designated a Local Historic Place for its architecture.

Built by the McLaughlin Brothers in 1917, Kirkpatrick House is an excellent example of Queen Anne Revival architecture in Grand Falls. The residence and former boarding house has the typical characteristics of the Victorian period and reflects the Queen Anne Revival style with its emphasis on complexity and opulence. The architecture is inspired by the "English home comfort" concept, where the family home becomes very important. The aim is to create a picturesque image, through architecture, by focusing on the diversity of shapes and compositions and playing with spaces and additions.
