Description du lieu patrimonial

Garrow House, located at 65 Montreal Street, is situated on the south side of Montreal Street west of the intersection of Market Street and Montreal Street in the Town of Goderich. The property consists of a two-storey Georgian Style residence that was constructed in circa 1850.

The property was designated by the Town of Goderich in 1987 for its architectural value under Part IV of the Ontario Heritage Act (By-Law 68 of 1982).

Valeur patrimoniale

The Garrow House is associated with former owner James T. Garrow who was a Supreme Court Judge and later a local Judge of the Canadian Exchequer Court.

Constructed in circa 1850, the Garrow House is a good representation of a large Georgian style home. Characteristic of the Georgian style is the symmetrical design which is exemplified by the tall windows on the façade and two end chimneys. Other details of note include the central Palladian window, decorative roof brackets, stone lintels and keystones.
