Description du lieu patrimonial

The Henry Gulledge House is located at 167 Trafalgar Road on the northeast corner of Trafalgar Road and Summer Avenue in the Town of Oakville. The two-and-a-half-storey red brick residence was constructed in 1876.

The property was designated by the Town of Oakville in 1984 for its heritage value under Part IV of the Ontario Heritage Act (By-law 1984-172).

Valeur patrimoniale

Henry Gulledge House is associated with Henry Gulledge, a prominent local saddler. The house was built by the Freestone Brothers in 1876. The Freestone Brothers were active builders in Oakville between 1860 and 1890. The residence is a good example of Gothic style architecture with Italianate elements. Typical of this style is the asymmetrical floor plan, many gables and steeply pitched roofs. Bay windows, which adorn two elevations, feature double hung windows. The Italianate elements are seen in the paired windows on the second floor and the buff brick quoins.
