Statement of Significance

Description of Historic Place

The Alfred H. Soloman Residence is located on the west side of Burr Street in the historic Brow of the Hill neighbourhood in New Westminster. It is distinctive for its hipped roof with a front hipped dormer, and an inset corner verandah. This house has been relocated from 208 Regina Street.

Heritage Value

The Alfred H. Soloman Residence, constructed in 1908, is significant as a typical example of speculative-built rental housing, constructed during a time of rapid residential development. The first owner was Alfred H. Soloman (1867-1960). A contractor who was originally from England, Soloman built this house for use as a rental property. It is additionally valued for its association with Brow of the Hill’s Edwardian-era development and as an example of working-class housing.
