Statement of Significance

Description of Historic Place

This former hotel, constructed in 1917 by Fraser Papers, consists of a rectangular 3-story inductrial building located along the banks of the Madawaska River in Edmundston.

Heritage Value

The heritage value of the Brunswick Résidence Funéraire as a local historic place resides in the fact that it is one of the few former hotels still standing in Edmundston, though its use has since changed. Completely remodelled, the building became Motel Lynn in 1967. In 1993, it was again altered to become Brunswick Résidence Funéraire.

The heritage value of the Brunswick Résidence Funéraire building also lies in the fact that it is symbolic of the importance of the Fraser mill in the region's economy. Fraser Papers originally built the hotel to house its workers and the many people who came to conduct business with the company.
