Statement of Significance

Description of Historic Place

LeBlanc House is a one-and-a-half storey, vernacular-style building dating from 1865 located on Principale Street in Saint-Antoine.

Heritage Value

LeBlanc House is designated a Local Historic Place for being the oldest residence in Saint-Antoine. This residence is also recognized for its association with some of the earliest families to settle in the Saint-Antoine area.

LeBlanc House was built by Raymond LeBlanc of La Batture, now known as Shediac, around 1865. After Raymond LeBlanc’s death, his widow married Olivier Mazerolle, one of the four Mazerolle brothers who settled in the colony very early on, after the Goguen and Robichaud families. The new couple lived in the house until it became the property of Hilaire Leblanc. LeBlanc House has stood on the same site since its construction. Many original elements of the house remain today, including door and window openings, wood cladding and details of the interior finish.
