Statement of Significance

Description of Historic Place

132 St. Vincent Street North is located on the southwest corner of Caledonia Street and St. Vincent Street North in the City of Stratford. The two storey brick residence was constructed in 1889.

The property was designated by the City of Stratford in 1998 for its heritage value under Part IV of the Ontario Heritage Act (By-law 93-98).

Heritage Value

Designed by Joseph R. Kilburn and constructed in 1889, 132 St. Vincent Street reflects Queen Anne Revival and Italianate styles of architecture. The Queen Anne Revival style can be recognized in the asymmetrical design, the tall decorative chimneys and the decorative gables forming a broken roofline. Prominent Italianate features include the decorative brackets and the protruding two storey bay brickwork surrounding the south chimney. 132 St. Vincent Street is prominently located on a corner lot, contributing to a streetscape that reflects of the historic affluence and prestige of the neighbourhood.
