Description of Historic Place
The Promontory Flats Elementary School is a one-room school located in the Promontory neighbourhood of Chilliwack, British Columbia. The historic place includes the school.
Heritage Value
This site holds social and cultural value as the typical one-room school house once served rural areas of the Fraser Valley. After being built on land donated by Ed Thornton, classes from Grades 1 to 8 were held under supervision of one teacher until 1942. Since then it has served as community hall, church, Women's Institute facility and is now serving as a preschool.
