Description du lieu patrimonial

The Christ Anglican Church is a Municipal Heritage Property which occupies two lots in Wapella. The property features a one-storey fieldstone church constructed in 1891.

Valeur patrimoniale

The heritage value of the Christ Anglican Church lies in its connection to the religious development of the community. The Anglican congregation in Wapella was established in the late 1880s and a church building fund was established in 1887. By 1891, enough money had been raised and the Christ Anglican Church was constructed with volunteer labour. The promptness of the erection of the church is testament to the value that the early settlers in the newly formed community placed on religion.

The heritage value of the property also resides in its architecture. With a fieldstone exterior and an elevated bell tower, the building conveys a sense of permanence and reverence consistent with the building’s function. The intricate religious ornamentation, arched windows and stained glass windows speak to the building's function as a place of worship.
